Tasarwen's Spaghetti Sauce

Brown together:
1 pound of very lean ground beef (or turkey)
1 medium onion
2 cloves garlic
1 Tablespoon olive oil

Drain after onion and garlic are soft

Add:
½ teaspoon salt and ¼ pepper
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 (8 ounce) can mushrooms
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
4 ounces of red wine (even White Zinfandel will do)
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 (16 ounce) can tomatoes, cut up or diced and undrained
1 thinly sliced stalk celery
1 thinly sliced carrot
1 thinly sliced zucchini squash
2 Tablespoons capers
½ teaspoon basil
1 bay leaf
If this is too bland, add ¼ to ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Simmer on low heat for 2 hours. Serve over your choice of pasta. The flavor improves after freezing.
